Friday Night Smackdown 4/9/2021


A recap aired of Daniel Bryan attacking Edge and Roman Reigns last week.


Daniel Bryan Segment

Thumbs Up

Daniel Bryan made his way to the ring the start WrestleMania SmackDown. Bryan noted he's excited for WrestleMania this weekend. He can't wait to see the set, smell of the pyro, and hear the roar of the fans.

Bryan loves the ThunderDome, but there's nothing better than being in front of the fans. There's nothing better than winning the title in front of fans in the WrestleMania main event.

Bryan pointed out that he's associated with the word, yes, but he's been told no many times in his career. People told Bryan no, he couldn't make it to the WWE, and no, he couldn't get the main event at WrestleMania. His friends and family wouldn't let him be negative.

Bryan noted that when everyone said no, he said yes. At first, Adam Pearce said no. He couldn't headline WrestleMania, but he said yes as well. Bryan pointed out that this Sunday night is the biggest match of his career.

Bryan knows that Edge and Reigns are very dangerous. However, they're not facing the family man. They're facing a dangerous Daniel Bryan. He asked one last question. Can Daniel Bryan walk out of the main event of WrestleMania as champion? Bryan then started doing the yes chant.

Bryan gave a fiery and passionate promo.


In the back, Kayla Braxton interviewed The Street Profits. They were doing the yes chant. They promised the win the tag titles tonight. Suddenly, Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode jumped the Street Profits. Rey and Dominik and Chad Gable & Otis ran out, and all four teams erupted in a huge brawl.

Thumbs In The Middle Pointing Down

This was a good but typical WWE fatal four-way with lots of fast-paced action.

Ziggler and Roode had the early advantage as they isolated Dominik on their side of the ring. Roode slowed the pace down with a chin lock on Dominik. Gable made a blind tag and worked over Dominik's arm.

Rey got the tag and rocked Gable with a back elbow. Rey attempted a moonsault, but Gable caught him. Rey then reversed into a DDT, but Roode broke up the pin attempt. All four teams ended up brawling.

Rey hit a suicide dive onto Gable and Otis. Dominik followed up with a moonsault to the floor.

Back from the break, Ford rocked Roode with a standing dropkick for a near fall. Roode regained control after hitting a spinebuster on Ford. Otis tagged in and rocked Ford with a hard clothesline.

Ziggler slowed the pace down with a chin lock. Ziggler attempted the famouser, but Ford countered with a powerbomb. Dawkins got the hot tag and ran wild. He hit a twisting splash in the corner, but Rey made a blind tag.

Rey and Dominik took over and hit a double 619 on Ziggler and Roode. Dominik followed up with a frog splash, but Otis broke up the pin attempt. All four teams broke out into a brawl. Ford hit a huge dive to the floor.

The finish came when Gable gave Dawkins a rolling German suplex, but Ford made a blind tag. He hit a huge frog splash on Gable, but Ziggler made another blind tag and rocked Ford with a superkick. Ziggler then pinned Gable for the win.


Kayla Braxton interviewed Bianca Belair. Belair admitted she's nervous for tomorrow night, but that doesn't mean she's scared. She's excited to prove what she can do. Braxton noted Sasha Banks is dangerous and would do whatever it takes to win.

Belair noted she's the strongest and fastest, which makes her the dangerous one. She promised to defeat Banks and win the title.


Earlier this week, Big E went to his barber Big Jay in Tampa. Big E noted he's from Tampa and comes here to get in the right mindset. He went to Raymond James Stadium, where he played in his high school all-star game. He promised Apollo Crews that this is where his dreams will die. Big E gave an awesome promo.


They aired a lengthy video package looking at The Fiend and Randy Orton feud.


Tamina (w/Natayla) defeated Nia Jax (w/Reginald & Shayna Baszler) Disqualifcation

Jax and Tamina had a decent match until the finish.

They locked up at the bell. Jax overpowered Tamina and pushed her down. They locked up again, but Tamina overpowered Jax. Jax was shocked, and Tamina took over.

Reginald jumped on the apron. Tamina tried to pull him in, but Baszler yanked him out. Jax took advantage and gained control. Jax beat down Tamina but went shoulder-first into the ring post.

Tamina climbed to the top rope, but Baszler tried to interfere. Natalya and Baszler brawled at ringside. Jax attempted the Samoan Drop, but Tamina slipped out. Tamina went for the Samoan Drop, but Jax slipped out.

Tamina then rocked Jax with a superkick and hit the Samoan Drop. Baszler jumped in the ring for the disqualification.


Kayla Braxton interviewed The Riott Squad in the back. Billie Kay showed up with her tag team partner Carmella. They argued briefly until Naomi & Lana and Mandy Rose & Dana Brooke showed up. All the teams got into a huge brawl until Tamina and Natalya jumped them.

Tamina and Natalya dominated the other teams and beat them all down. Tamina appeared to injure Liv Morgan's ribs severely.


They aired a campaign-style video looking at the feud between Seth Rollins and Cesaro.


Edge Segment

Thumbs Up

Edge sat on a chair in the middle of the ring. He talked about going to WrestleMania 6 and seeing Hulk Hogan against Ultimate Warrior. Edge knew that night what he needed to do with his life.

Edge did everything he ever said he was going to do. He manifested his dreams and made them come true. The only thing he didn't do on his time was ending his career. He fought back to earn the title shot at WrestleMania 37. Edge mocked Bryan for claiming this WrestleMania could be his last.

Edge again mocked Bryan for trying to get a title shot at WrestleMania. Instead of a clash between Edge and Reigns, it's a triple threat. He called Bryan an indie book store troll.

Edge called Reigns Samoan Edge. He noted Reigns started his career in a three-person group, entered through the crowd, and uses the spear just like him. Edge pointed out that most fans are onto Bryan except for the lemons that chant Yes and What.

Edge pointed out that he came back from an injury that nobody in sports entertainment or sports has ever done. It took him nine years to come back, and he's not phoning it in. He's doing hurricanranas off the top rope.

Edge demands respect. He promised to be the next world champion because he dreamt it, and now he'll manifest it.

Edge gave an awesome promo. Bryan and Edge both delivered fantastic promos.

In the back, Sonya Deville and Adam Pearce discussed WrestleMania. Deville didn't think it was fair to make Ziggler and Roode defend against three teams. Pearce was confused. Deville also disagrees with the triple threat main event.


Kayla Braxton interviewed SmackDown Women's Champion Sasha Banks. Banks mocked Belair for thinking she's the best. Banks noted nobody cares about Belair but wants to hear from her. She promised to defeat Belair and retain the title.


They aired a video package looking at WWE Champion Bobby Lashley against Drew McIntyre.

They recapped the angle between Sami Zayn, Logan Paul, and Kevin Owens from last week.

Earlier this week, Sami Zayn visited Logan and Jake Paul training at a gym in Miami. Zayn ran out to get his stuff to spar with Logan and Jake Paul. He went outside but couldn't get back into the gym. Zayn banged on the door, but they wouldn't let him inside.

Michael Cole and Corey Grave were laughing at Zayn. Zayn ran over to the announce table and started ranting. He was furious that they showed that footage and claimed he had breakfast with Logan. Cole looked at his watch and seemed annoyed.

The participants for the battle royal made their way out as Zayn continued to rant. Suddenly, Kevin Owens jumped Zayn, and they briefly brawled. Zayn then ran away to the back.


Micahel Cole and Corey Graves ran down the WrestleMania line-up.

Participants: Akira Tozawa, Angel Garza, Cedric Alexander, Drew Gulak, Elias, Erik, Gran Metalik, Humberto Carrillo, Jaxson Ryker, Jey Uso, Kalisto, King Corbin, Lince Dorado, MACE, Murphy, Mustafa Ali, Ricochet, Shelton Benjamin, Shinsuke Nakamura, SLAPJACK, T-Bar, and Tucker.

This was a good battle royal, especially the last few moments.

Benjamin and Alexander worked together and threw out Tozawa for the first elimination. They then threw out Tucker right after. The rest of the participants stood on the opposite side of the ring. Benjamin and Alexander attempted to take them all on, but they got overpowered. Both Benjamin and Alexander were the next ones eliminated.

Back from the break, Erik was beating down Ryker when Elias saved him. Elias and Ryker worked together and tossed out Erik.

T-Bar and Mace then thew out Gulak. They followed up by tossing out Carillo onto Gulak.

T-Bar and Mace squared off with Elias and Ryker. They quickly tossed them both out.

Ali snuck up and threw out Mace. T-Bar tried to chokeslam Ali, but Murphy made the save. Ali then threw out T-Bar.

Metalik and Dorado teased working with Kalisto, but they turned on him.

Back from the break, it was down to the final seven. Garza and Murphy fought on the apron. Murphy tried to jump back in, but Corbin shoved him to the floor. Nakamura rocked Garza with a knee, but he held on. Nakamura recovered and knocked Garza to the floor.

Ali and Ricochet fought on the apron. Ricochet rocked Ali with a knee and hit a tilt-a-whirl head scissors sending Ali to the floor. Ricochet attempted a springboard back in the ring, but Corbin cut him off. Uso then rocked Ricochet with a superkick to eliminate him.

It came down to Corbin, Nakamura, and Uso. Uso sent Corbin to the apron, but he held on. Nakamura then knocked Corbin to the floor.

The final two were Uso and Nakamura. Nakamura set up for the Kinshasa, but Uso countered with a superkick. Nakamura recovered and hit the Kinshasa. Uso fought back and tossed out Nakamura to win the Andre The Giant Memorial battle royal.


Roman Reigns Segment

Thumbs Up

Universal Champion Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman made their way to the ring. Reigns congratulated Uso on his win. They piped in loud "You suck" chants.

Reigns was furious that he has to be there tonight. He's upset that he's in a match where he can lose the title without getting pinned. Reigns promised to show up Sunday night and win in the main event.

Reigns promised to show up and win. He admitted that Edge and Bryan had one good night. Reigns has had good nights since SummerSlam. He noted he helped change the ratings.

Reigns turned his attention to the dreamers.

Reigns pointed out that Bryan talks about making him tap out. He promised that Bryan wouldn't make him tap out Sunday. Reigns mocked Edge for attempting to make his comeback story complete. Reigns isn't a dreamer. He's the head of the table.

Reigns said Edge and Bryan is just the start. He promises that nobody can expect what's next. Reigns vowed to retain the title. He quoted Paul Heyman and said it's a spoiler, not a prediction. Reigns promised that at the end of the night, the world would acknowledge him as the head of the table.

Reigns delivered a great promo as well. Reigns, Edge, and Bryan all gave good promos for their main event Sunday night.
